The “Avemannsche Haus” was built in the middle of the 18th century by assessor Baron Johann Hermann Franz von Pape, known as Papius, and rented to Reich Chamber Court families.

At the beginning of the 19th century, Lieutenant Colonel von Avemann was the owner of this house. From 1836 to 1940 the building housed various schools, after which it served residential purposes and was later used for municipal facilities. In 1987 the Reichskammergerichtsmuseum was set up here.

Goethe's handwritten entry of May 25, 1772 in the court's intern register is exhibited here as a facsimile.

In the Avemann house (named after a family who owned the house) there has been the Reich Chamber Court Museum since 1987, the institution that made Wetzlar the "capital" of German law from 1690 to 1806. However, the museum building has no direct historical connection with the court. Its conference venues were first the Fischmarkt 13 building (formerly the town hall), on Domplatz and finally the Ingelheim'sche Palais in Hauser Gasse 19.
