The small Church of the Madonna del Piano is a precious testimony of the sacred buildings present in the countryside and of the strong religiosity of the small rural communities. The building is of modest size, in exposed stone and with a single room. The entrance is preceded by a large arched pronaos, while the top is concluded by a bell gable bearing the date 1872. This isolated church houses on the high altar a valuable fresco dating back to the early 1500s depicting a Madonna and Child : the work is small in size and denotes a certain schematic nature of the representation, but the simple and clean line and the faces show good painting skills. It is known that during the nineteenth century it was dedicated to the Visitation of Santa Maria Santissima invoked by the inhabitants of these areas to protect crops and to ward off hail and storms. A testimony tells that the Bishop of Modigliana, passing through the area, was surprised by a sudden storm of hail, so he sought shelter in this very church and after having prayed the sky returned to clear again. The construction of the church took place during the thirteenth century by the will of the Faggiolani family who resided in the ancient castle of Faggiola Vecchia, which no longer exists. During the nineteenth century the building was in poor condition and a first restoration was carried out, followed by another during the twentieth century. The Church is also located on the path of San Francesco which connects Rimini to La Verna and is located in an oasis of peace surrounded by nature.
