Perched at an elevation of approximately 219 meters, the Gaugräfenburg Ruins and View of Bretten offer a fascinating glimpse into the rich history of the Kraichgau region in Germany. While the name "Gaugräfenburg Ruins" refers to the historical site of an early medieval castle, the area is most famously dominated by the impressive Pfeiferturm, a well-preserved medieval tower that once formed a crucial part of Bretten's defensive fortifications. The remnants of the Gaugrafenburg Bretten you can recognize here still good. The castle was probably built by the Kraichgaugrafen in the 11th century. From the former castle complex are still preserved the stump of the keep and ramparts. From up here you also have a nice view of Bretten.

The covered viewing point with a rest area is located on the rubble that was created when the crescent-shaped moat was dug. You have to read an information board with the history up to Roman times and a floor plan of the site! This makes it a place with an exciting history.
Only a few foundation walls and the moat of the castle itself can be seen.

The Pfeiferturm itself offers a magnificent 360-degree panoramic view over Bretten and the surrounding Kraichgau hills from its viewing platform. Additionally, the Simmelturm, another historic medieval tower, is located at the southeastern corner of Bretten's old town and is worth exploring for its historical significance, though it may not offer the same panoramic views as the Pfeiferturm.

What are the parking options and public transport accessibility for the Gaugräfenburg Ruins?
