The Cathedral of St. Anne is the Catholic bishop church of Thiès, the fifth largest city of the Sénégal, which is located about 70 km east of Dakar. The city has about 310,000 inhabitants and is known for its carpet industry. For around 90% of Muslims, Christians in Sénégal are a minority with a share of around 5%. The Diocese of Thiès exists since 1969 and was previously part of the Diocese of Dakar. There are about 2 million people in the Diocese of Thiès, of whom more than 50,000 are Catholics.
