As already said, a lovely experience and saves a large detour. Difficult with a loaded touring bike on one's own as the sand is soft and the ramp steep, so thought I'd need to remove the panniers, but the ferryman just grabbed the front of the bike and pulled it aboard. Make sure you have the fare for the bike as well as yourself. Steps off the pier can be slippy but had help from another passenger.

Quite apart from the distance you save, the small ferry is an experience in itself. Alone it can be quite difficult to get a fully loaded touring bike onto the boat. But that also depends on the water level and therefore how steep the ramp is. But as soon as you have made it halfway, the nice ferryman lends a hand.
A must when you are there!
