Campigna is a small mountain town in the heart of the Casentino forests. Although it is currently a collection of a few houses, with a couple of hotels and as many restaurants, Campigna actually has an ancient past. It is believed that the first inhabitants of the area were Ligurian warrior shepherds, who arrived from the shores of the Tyrrhenian Sea in the third millennium BC. Later the Romans settled, interested in defending the strategic position and exploiting the surrounding forests. Today the oldest building is a late 18th century palace where the Granduca hotel is located.

Surrounded by the peaks of Monte Falco (1657 m), Monte Falterona (1654 m) and Monte Gabrendo (1540 m), Campigna is the smallest and highest village in the Bidente Valley, the heart of the Foreste Casentinesi National Park, immersed in one of most important historic forests at a national level.
