Embark on a difficult hike along the Zendleser Kofel Loop from Zans, a challenging route that covers 6.2 miles (10.0 km) with a significant elevation gain of 2315 feet (706 metres). You can expect to spend around 4 hours and 20 minutes on this trail, which leads you through diverse terrain. As you ascend, you will pass through lush alpine meadows, eventually reaching the summit cross at Zendleser Kofel, where a wide vista opens up, showcasing the Peitlerkofel group to the north and the Geisler and Puez groups to the south. The path starts on well-prepared sections before becoming steeper as you climb higher.
To plan your visit, know that the trail typically begins from the Zans parking area. While the initial parts are accessible, some sections, especially closer to the summit, are steep and demand good fitness and sure-footedness. Make sure you are well-prepared for a strenuous climb. This route is best suited for experienced hikers looking for a rewarding physical challenge in the mountains.
This loop is situated within the stunning Puez-Geisler Nature Park, offering you magnificent views of the iconic Geisler Group and the entire Villnöss valley. Keep an eye out for marmots, as they are often seen in this area. You will also find several alpine huts, such as Gampen Alm and Kaserill Hut, along different parts of the route, providing opportunities for rest and refreshments during your hike.
