The almost 1,000-year history of salt extraction and its importance for Rheine can be seen in the use of the salt deposits in Bentlage and in the development of the “Godsend” saline.

At the saltworks in Rheine you can relax, breathe healthy air, drop by the Drei-Giebel-Haus or the Josef-Winckler Haus. In addition, the small Rheiner Zoo invites you to visit it. The old Bentlage monastery is just as close as the Ems.
In the salt boiler house at the saltworks, there is often the possibility to boil salt yourself or to take a guided tour on the subject of salt boiling.

The whole area at the Salinepark Rheine is a nice local recreation area for young and old. The salt pans with the adjacent salt boiler house are very interesting. There is also the three-gabled house, where you can buy small souvenirs, get tourist information, and bike rental is included.
Furthermore, the Josef Winckler House and the Rheine Nature Zoo are located on the site.
