    A hike around the lake is recommended. The tour is about twelve kilometers long. It leads through the town and later also through the forest. No matter whether by bike or on foot.                           The Zwischenahner Meer is Lower Saxony's third-largest inland lake. Its advantages:
                          many recreational opportunities and a well-kept spa town on the southern shore - Bad Zwischenahn.

                          At 5.3 square kilometers, just under three kilometers long, and two kilometers wide:

                          Only the inland lakes Steinhuder Meer and Dümmer in Lower Saxony are larger than the Zwischenahner Meer. Water sports are a major focus here, with dozens of sailboats moored on the shore. Those without their own boat can rent pedal boats, electric boats, or rowboats from several rental companies; sailboats are also available in Dreibergen on the northern shore.

                          The name might be confusing: Is a 5.3 square kilometer inland lake called the Zwischenahner Meer? The explanation lies in the North German language.

                          It uses the word "Meer" (sea) from its origin "Mori" = swamp or stagnant body of water. Many inland lakes in the north are therefore called "Meer" (sea).

                          Open bodies of water, such as the North Sea or the Baltic Sea, are called "See" (lakes).

                          The Zwischenahner Meer (Sea of Intermediate Germany) was formed when an underground salt dome collapsed around 11,000 years ago, leaving a crater.

                                                In 1979, a huge fish made headlines all over the world - and made Bad Zwischenahn famous.
                                                It is said to be huge and terrifying. He also ate a dachshund, but this later turned out to be a fabricated story by a Zwischenahner. We are talking about the legendary catfish in the Zwischenahner Meer. It appeared for the first time on April 26, 1979.
