The bridge was already planned at the end of the 20th century. It was and is controversial and in the mid-1990s triggered what became known as the "Dresden Bridge Controversy". After a referendum in 2005, the bridge in the middle of the UNESCO World Heritage Cultural Landscape Dresden Elbe Valley became known throughout Germany. Because of them, the Elbe Valley was put on the Red List of World Heritage in Danger and lost the World Heritage title three years later (2008). 74million By the way, the construction costs devoured euros.

The Waldschlößchen Bridge is one of Dresden's most famous Elbe crossings—and not just because of its views. Its construction sparked much controversy in the 1990s and even led to the Dresden Elbe Valley losing its UNESCO World Heritage status. Today, it connects the city's districts and offers sweeping views over the Elbe meadows and toward the Old Town.
