Elisenbrunnen/-garten otrzymał swoją nazwę na cześć księżniczki. Chodzi o Elżbietę Ludwikę, zwaną Elise, córkę bawarskiego króla Maksymiliana I. 29 listopada 1823 roku poślubiła późniejszego pruskiego króla Fryderyka Wilhelma IV. Z okazji tego ślubu rada miejska Akwizgranu postanowiła nazwać ukończoną kilka lat później fontannę imieniem panny młodej. W rotundzie fontanny do dziś stoi popiersie upamiętniające piękną księżniczkę.

Not far from the cathedral is this pavilion with excavations on the settlement history in Aachen. On the small area there are stone witnesses from different eras over the period of about 2000 years.
