    Bezienswaardige faciliteit, ongeveer 700 jaar oud. Er is geen direct documentair bewijs van het kasteel of zijn bouwers. Kropfenstein is echter een van de weinige grotkastelen die niet in een donker hol werd gebouwd als toevluchtsoord in tijden van nood, maar diende als woning voor een gerespecteerde familie, die onder meer gerechtsdeurwaarders en magistraten ter beschikking stelde. Mogelijk heeft de familie von Kropfenstein van lagere adel gevestigd in Luven (Maschieras) het kasteel Kropfenstein gebouwd of verworven of zichzelf ernaar vernoemd, terwijl een tak van deze familie in Luven bleef wonen.
