    Jalal ad-Din Muhammad Rumi - Rumi voor kort - meestal is er sprake maulawe in het Perzisch (geboren 30 september 1207 in Balch, vandaag in Afghanistan, overleden 17 december 1273 in Konya), was een Perzische soefi mysticus, geleerde en een van de meest belangrijke Perzisch sprekende dichters uit de Middeleeuwen. Van zijn volgelingen, vooral de derwisjen, kreeg hij de bijnaam Maulana (Turkse spelling: Mevlânâ) voor "onze Heer / Meester". De Mevlevi Dervish Order is naar hem vernoemd.
