    Het fort ligt op een heuvel aan de monding van de rivier de Fuengirola en biedt een adembenemend uitzicht op de Middellandse Zee. De oorsprong van het kasteel gaat terug tot de 10e eeuw, toen het door de Moren werd gebouwd om de kust tegen indringers te verdedigen. Door de eeuwen heen werd het verschillende keren uitgebreid en herbouwd, vooral na de christelijke verovering in de 15e eeuw. Tegenwoordig zijn de gerestaureerde muren en torens van het kasteel een indrukwekkend voorbeeld van de architectuur uit vervlogen tijden. Ook de omgeving van het kasteel met zijn verzorgde park is een hoogtepunt!
