    Rudyard Lake is in feite een stuwmeer, gebouwd in de 18e eeuw om het Caldon-kanaal te voeden. Het werd een recreatiecentrum dankzij de North Staffordshire Railway, die dagjesmensen naar deze prachtige plek zou brengen. Op en rond het meer vinden tot op de dag van vandaag allerlei activiteiten plaats.

    In 1863 waren twee bezoekers zo onder de indruk van de schoonheid dat ze hun zoon naar het meer noemden. De zoon was Rudyard Kipling, de beroemde auteur die het Jungle Book en de man die koning zou zijn schreef.
