    Het natuurgebied kent een groot aantal beschermde gebieden in vrijwel alle beschermingscategorieën. Slechts kleine gebieden zijn aangemerkt als echt natuurgebied, waaronder het vogelreservaat Alter und Neuer See ten zuiden van Sulzheim-Mönchstockheim. Een ander groter gebied is het fauna- en floragebied Dürrfelder en Sulzheimer Wald, dat tevens een van de grootste bosgebieden in het Steigerwald-uitlopersgebied is. Het gebied maakt ook deel uit van het vogelreservaat Schweinfurter Bekken en het Noordelijke Steigerwaldvoorland.
