The parish church of St. Gertrud in Morsbach
After the first settlement (about 500-900 AD) or at the time of Morsbach's first written mention (around 895), a first chapel made of wood or stone was probably built on a rocky plateau above the present town center. Shortly before the start of construction of today's church confirmed in 1131 Pope Innocent II the Bonn Cassiusstift the ownership rights to the Morsbacher church. The construction of the almost 31 m high church tower took place between 1150 and 1200, that of the central nave and choir between 1200 and 1250, ie around 800 years ago. When the foundation stone for Cologne Cathedral was laid in 1248, the church in Morsbach was completed.

At that time, the strongest late Romanesque galleries of the Oberbergischer Kreis, a three-aisled church without a transept, were built in the small village of Morsbach. Witnesses of the Romanesque architectural style are the thick walls, small windows and round arches (in contrast to the Gothic style of Cologne Cathedral with thin walls, large windows and pointed arches).

Of importance are the frescoes in the choir of the church. They date back to the construction period and were only rediscovered and uncovered in the 1950s. Otherwise, the church has experienced little change over generations. Morsbach is with his document from the year 895 the oldest documented place in the Oberbergischer Kreis and its neighboring communities.
The wreath of old lime trees around the parish church

Around the parish church stand on the church square 25 and in the parish garden five lime trees. They were probably planted around 1870 after the cemetery was moved from the church square to another location. At night, barn owls already sit in the linden trees to hunt for mice in the parish garden and on the church square. The rare birds have been nesting in a nesting box in the steeple of the church for years.
