    Het uitzicht vanaf de ruïne op Altenahr en Mayschoß waar de Ahr zich kronkelt wildromantisch in nauwe bochten door rotspartijen en steile wijngaarden die met stapelmuren zijn geterrasseerd is geweldig. Het mediterrane klimaat en de leisteenbodem creëren optimale omstandigheden voor de rijping van de overwegend blauwe druiven. De wijnroute is een must om eens in je leven te lopen.
    Het uitzicht op de hellingen met druiven, de rivier, de wit stenen dorpen, de heuvels, de bossen en andere ruines en bouwwerken is echt geweldig.

    Vanaf kasteel Are heeft u een prachtig uitzicht over Altenahr en het Ahrdal. De kasteelruïnes liggen op 240 m boven zeeniveau. NHN boven Altenahr.
    Het kasteel staat op de rotsachtige top van een berg, waarvan de oost- en zuidkant steil omhoog lopen. Het stamslot van de graven van Are werd in de eerste helft van de 12e eeuw gebouwd door Theodorik van Are. In de 13e eeuw kwam het in het bezit van het keurvorstendom Keulen en het werd in de 14e en 15e eeuw veelvuldig uitgebreid.
