    De Waldecker Schlossberg draagt de overblijfselen van een kasteel dat een van de oudste in de Opper-Palts is. Het werd voor het eerst genoemd in een document in 1124. In 1794 verwoestte een verwoestende brand het kasteel en de stad Waldeck.

    Het dorp Waldeck werd herbouwd rond de bedevaartskerk van St. Johannes Nepomuk, die in 1731 ten noorden van de Schlossberg werd gebouwd. Alleen al vanwege het fenomenale uitzicht is de klim naar de liefdevol gerestaureerde kasteelruïne de moeite waard.

    Een 641 meter hoge basaltkegel, ongeveer vijf kilometer ten oosten van Kemnath, schreef geschiedenis. Op de top bevond zich een van de oudste kastelen in de Opper-Palts. Kasteel Waldeck werd voor het eerst vermeld in een document uit 1124.

    Het kasteelcomplex wordt al tientallen jaren opgegraven en gerestaureerd. De lokale en culturele vereniging Waldeck droeg een groot deel bij. In de openluchtkapel St. Ägidius vinden regelmatig kerkdiensten plaats en ook vinden hier jaarlijks theatervoorstellingen plaats op een openluchtpodium met 300 zitplaatsen. De optredens van het Landestheater Oberpfalz maken nu deel uit van het reguliere culturele programma.
