    De controlekamer maakt deel uit van het wacht- en landslootsysteem van Quedlinburg en bevindt zich op een van de hoogste punten (ongeveer 198 meter) van een zandstenen bergkam genaamd de Altenburg.
    De oorspronkelijke controlekamer in de vorm van een ronde toren van ongeveer vijf meter dik stamde uit de 14e of 15e eeuw. In 1889 bouwde de Harz Club uit de verweerde overblijfselen een nieuwe toren, die na verschillende restauraties nu in gebruik is als een tien meter hoge vijfhoekige uitkijktoren met een wenteltrap, waarvan het platform via 51 treden te bereiken is.
