    De eilandkerk in Kloster is het oudste gebouw aan Hiddensee. Een prachtig kerkje dat uitnodigt om “te ontsnappen aan het dagelijkse leven” en voorzien is van enkele bijzondere kenmerken. Zoals een ‘doopengel met doopschaal’ die onder het kerkplafond zweeft en tijdens dopen naar beneden kan worden gelaten. Een doopengel die het doopwater rechtstreeks uit de hemel brengt.

    Interessant is dat de kerk aanvankelijk tot 1322 als boerenkerk werd gebouwd als "kapel voor de kloosterpoort" en nu een zeemanskerk is in de juiste stijl met al zijn decoratie en de maritieme kleurstelling die na 1964 op de advies van de TU Dresden. Vooral omdat het klooster ooit was gewijd aan de patroonheilige van de zeelieden, Nicolaas. De "Hiddenseer Rosenhimmel" (hemel van rozen) gemaakt van wilde rozen werd bijna van de ene op de andere dag gecreëerd door de schilder en levensgenieter Max Nikolaus Niemeier. De kerkbelasting was voor hem kwijtgescholden.
