Perfect!

    Veelgestelde vragen

What are the operating hours for the Hohsaas cable car and mountain restaurant?

The Hohsaas cable car typically operates seasonally, with specific hours for summer and winter. It's always best to check the official Saas-Fee/Saastal website or local tourism office for the most current schedule, as operating times can vary based on the season and weather conditions. The mountain restaurant generally aligns its hours with the cable car operation.

Are there any easy or family-friendly hiking options directly from Hohsaas?

While Hohsaas is a starting point for challenging mountaineering, there are accessible options. You can enjoy the panoramic views from the restaurant's sun terrace or take a leisurely stroll around the summit area. For a slightly longer, family-friendly hike, consider taking the cable car down to the Kreuzboden station. From there, you can explore the Alpine Flower Trail to Almageller Alp, which offers a different perspective of the stunning landscape.

Is Hohsaas Summit and Mountain Restaurant accessible for visitors with limited mobility or wheelchairs?

The Hohsaas Summit and Mountain Restaurant is located directly at the cable car station, making it relatively accessible. The cable car system itself is modern, and the restaurant area offers level access. However, the surrounding high-alpine terrain is rugged. It's advisable to contact the cable car operators directly for specific accessibility information regarding wheelchairs or other mobility aids.

What are the options for public transport to reach Saas-Grund for the Hohsaas cable car?

Saas-Grund is well-connected by public transport. You can typically reach Saas-Grund by bus from Visp, which is a major railway hub in Valais. From Saas-Grund, the cable car station for Hohsaas is usually within walking distance or a short local bus ride. Always check current bus schedules and connections.

Can I bring my dog on the Hohsaas cable car and to the mountain restaurant?

Policies regarding dogs on cable cars can vary. Generally, dogs are permitted on Swiss cable cars, often requiring a ticket. It's highly recommended to check the specific regulations of the Saas-Grund–Hohsaas cable car system before your visit. While dogs might be allowed on the cable car, their access to the indoor areas of the mountain restaurant may be restricted, though outdoor terraces are often more accommodating.

What kind of food and drinks are served at the Hohsaas Mountain Restaurant?

The Hohsaas Mountain Restaurant (Hohsaashütte) offers a warm and welcoming atmosphere, serving Valais specialties. You can expect to find traditional Swiss dishes such as cheese dishes, soups, and salads, complemented by regional wines. It's a perfect spot to enjoy local delicacies while taking in the panoramic views from the sun terrace.

Are there any accommodation options directly at Hohsaas or nearby?

For more extensive accommodation options, the valley town of Saas-Grund and the wider Saas-Fee/Saastal region offer a range of hotels, guesthouses, and apartments to suit various preferences and budgets.

What are the best months for winter activities at Hohsaas, and what can I expect?

Hohsaas is an integral part of the Saas-Grund ski area, ensuring reliable snow conditions between elevations of 1,559 and 3,200 meters. The winter season typically runs from late autumn through spring. The top station at Hohsaas features challenging glacier slopes, while the intermediate station at Kreuzboden provides easier, wide slopes suitable for beginners, a children's area (Hohsi-Land), and snow parks. Expect high-alpine fun and stunning snowy vistas.

What are the benefits of the Saas-Fee SaastalCard for visitors to Hohsaas?

For visitors staying overnight in the Saas-Fee/Saastal Holiday Region during summer, the SaastalCard often provides significant benefits. These can include free use of most cable cars and post buses in the Saas Valley, which would cover the journey to Hohsaas. It's a great way to save on transport costs and explore the region. Always confirm the current benefits and validity period of the SaastalCard with your accommodation provider or the local tourism office.

Are there any specific permits or regulations for hiking or mountaineering around Hohsaas?

For general hiking on marked trails around Hohsaas, specific permits are typically not required. However, if you plan to undertake glacier hikes or more challenging mountaineering routes, especially those involving the Trift Glacier or ascents of peaks like the Weissmies or Lagginhorn, it is highly recommended, and often essential, to hire a certified mountain guide. Guides ensure safety and navigate complex terrain. Always respect local regulations and environmental protection guidelines.

What are the main differences between Hohsaas and Kreuzboden?

Hohsaas is the higher mountain station at approximately 3,142 meters, offering direct access to glacier terrain, challenging ski slopes, and the most expansive panoramic views of 18 four-thousander peaks.
