The Großer Widderstein, a majestic peak rising to 2,533 meters (8,310 feet), is a prominent landmark in the west Austrian state of Vorarlberg. This striking pyramid-shaped mountain is the highest point in the Southeastern Walsertal Mountains subgroup, part of the larger Allgäu Alps.     De beklimming van de Großer Widderstein wordt aanbevolen vanuit Baad tegen de klok in. Tot en met het eigenlijke instappunt is het een bergtocht zonder bijzondere moeilijkheden. Bij het beklimmen van de topgeul zijn tredvastheid en opmerkzaamheid vereist, vooral vanwege de losse steenslag. Let op: erg druk in de zomermaanden.

    Omdat je naar de Hochtannbergpas kunt rijden en vanaf daar "slechts" ongeveer 3 uur naar de top hebt, is het vaak ongelooflijk druk, vooral in het weekend als het weer goed is. Als je de kans hebt om deze geweldige top doordeweeks te doen, moet je dat doen.

    De hele tocht rond en op de Widderstein is vrij van bergbeklimmers op slippers, omdat er geen kabelbaan is om er te komen. Zo ontmoet je gelijkgestemden. Het uitzicht is onbetaalbaar en als je eenmaal de alpiene beklimming achter je hebt, is dat de ultieme beloning.
