    Zoals de naam al doet vermoeden, was de Götzenburg ooit de voorouderlijke zetel van de beroemde ridder Götz von Berlichingen. Tegenwoordig is er een elegant kasteelhotel en een kasteelrestaurant in het romantische kasteelensemble. Het restaurant is dagelijks geopend van 17.00 uur tot 21.30 uur.

    Het jaarlijkse hoogtepunt op het kasteel is zonder twijfel het kasteelfeest. Op de binnenplaats worden van begin juni tot eind augustus klassieke toneelstukken en moderne musicals opgevoerd. Meer over het festival vindt u op schlosshotel-goetzenburg.de/burgfestspiele-jagsthausen.

    Het huidige complex, bestaande uit het tweevleugelige kerngebouw, werd in de 15e en 16e eeuw gebouwd door de familie von Berlichingen. Götzenburg was de geboorteplaats van de “Ridder met de IJzeren Hand”, Götz von Berlichingen werd hier in 1480 geboren. De ontwerpen van de Ulmse kathedraalbouwer August von Beyer leidden tussen 1876 en 1878 tot de grootste herinrichting van het kasteel, waarbij de zuidvleugel en de poorttoren werden gebouwd en het park rondom het complex werd aangelegd.

    Het kasteel dateert uit de middeleeuwen en werd in de 15e eeuw uitgebreid tot zijn huidige vorm. Het is schilderachtig gelegen aan de oevers van de Jagst en imponeert met zijn solide stenen muren en historische flair. Tegenwoordig is het in privébezit, maar het herbergt onder andere een hotel en dient als locatie voor het Jagsthausen Castle Festival, waar jaarlijks Goethes "Götz von Berlichingen" op het openluchtpodium wordt opgevoerd.
