To make Seoul a greener city, construction began in 2003 to clear and renaturate the river.
The high-speed highway was demolished, historic bridges were rebuilt and the stream was landscaped. Today, the Cheonggyecheon River is a popular place to go for a walk. In the evening, the river is brightly lit with colorful lights.
