The heavy iron door behind this grille was the entrance to a secret NATO headquarters, the Joint Operations Center, from 1954 to 1992. It was a communications center where coordination took place for the Allied land and air forces from Northwestern Europe to the Iron Curtain. Information about troop movements on both sides of the Iron Curtain was collected and processed here.

A visit to the Former NATO Headquarters Cannerberg is exclusively via guided tour. Is the Former NATO Headquarters Cannerberg suitable for families with children?

The site offers a fascinating and educational experience for those interested in history. However, given the nature of a guided historical tour in an underground complex, it might be more engaging for older children and teenagers who can appreciate the historical context and duration of the tour.
