Mönchsweg mit Leib und Seele

This is the Schleswig-Holstein section of the Monks' Cycle Route. It takes you from Glückstadt to Puttgarden on Fehmarn. A breakdown of the cycle route into six stages, as well as an additional day trip to Nütschau Monastery, can be found in this collection: komoot.com/de-de/collection/3251282.

There's a lot to discover on the first stage of the Monks' Trail. Take your time! It starts at Bremen's market square. The Roland statue and the town hall are UNESCO World Heritage sites. The Bremen Town Musicians, a city landmark, are just as much a must-see as St. Peter's Cathedral, where your journey

This stage is an optional day trip that takes you to the Benedictine monastery of Nütschau. It is the only active monastery on the Monks' Trail.



Shortly before Bad Segeberg, you leave the main route and cycle through the beautiful Bad Segeberg Forest and the Leezener Au lowlands towards Bad Oldesloe

Following in the footsteps of the monks, this is the final leg of your cycling tour through Schleswig-Holstein. It takes you to the sunny island of Fehmarn. After leaving Oldenburg, you'll cycle through small villages to the popular holiday resort of Heiligenhafen, right on the Baltic Sea coast. Here

On this stage, the Baltic Sea coast and therefore the beach are always close by. The tour starts in the port town of Neustadt in Holstein. From here, you cycle inland towards Altenkrempe with its imposing basilica, which you can see from afar.

On this stage, you'll pass numerous lakes, offering welcome cooling on hot days. The tour begins in Plön, where you can visit the castle to kick off the stage. Then, you'll cycle through the hilly landscape of Holstein Switzerland, where around ten lakes await you.



You'll cycle along a beautiful route

Numerous lakes await you on this stage, inviting you to take a break and take a dip. The route begins in Bad Segeberg. From here, you cycle towards Bornhöved. In the town, you'll find St. Jacobi Church, the oldest church on the Mönchsweg (Monks' Trail).

On the second stage in Schleswig-Holstein, the route takes you mostly through open fields. Shortly after leaving Kellinghusen, you'll pass the small fieldstone church in Stellau. It's worth making your first stop here. You can also take a break and enjoy the unique atmosphere at the Mönkloh Forest Chapel

The first stage of the Monks' Trail through Schleswig-Holstein begins in Glückstadt. Here, you'll cycle along the harbor basin and out of town. After leaving the last houses behind you, you'll cycle through a typical marsh landscape, where you can let your gaze wander to the horizon.
