From Patergassen, we took the Nock Mobil to the Heidi Alm/Falkertsee. There, we headed off-piste up to the ridge and then mostly followed the crest. Despite a poor weather forecast, we set off for Kieneck today by public transport. We travelled to Thal, then hiked via Atz and the Mareschsteig trail to the Enzianhütte mountain hut. Unfortunately, there was no hoarfrost today, and the paths were quite icy – but with crampons, it was no problem. We soaked up plenty of sunshine, though the wind was unpleasant at times.

Despite the lack of snow, it was a very beautiful winter hike, as you can see in the photos. The mountain hut was operating with limited services, but luckily they had soup and a traditional Austrian snack.

We travelled by public transport and it worked out well.
