What should I wear?

If you take a look at all of the clothing options available, you can be tricked into thinking you need specialist gear for even the tiniest of differences in your route. You can buy different shoes for long distance hikes, day hikes, alpine hikes, via ferrata, running, walking, and Nordic walking—and trail running is no exception. The important thing, however, is to recognize for yourself whether special gear is necessary, something that’s rarely the case for trail running. All you need is a good pair of comfortable running shoes that you can safely jog in, with ankle-high shoes only becoming necessary if your path contains plenty of places where you’re likely to turn your ankle. If you’re sure your ankle won’t fold over because of a couple of bumps in the road, just stick to your regular sneakers. After all, it's not the marketing minions of this world that define adventure, it's you.

And this concept goes for clothes, too. Some people like synthetic, some don't. Some people like to run in shorts no matter how cold the weather, some prefer long pants. Some like baggy clothes, some like it tight. Whatever you prefer, stick to that: Nature isn’t a catwalk. The only thing that matters is while you’re running, you feel good. Which is the best look of all.
