The splendidly reconstructed half-timbered house "Goldene Waage" is the jewel in the New Frankfurt Old Town. It was originally built in 1619 by the confectioner, spice and paint dealer Abraham van Hamel, a Dutch religious refugee. The original building was destroyed in the air raid on March 22, 1944. Fortunately, since the Renaissance house was one of the most magnificent buildings in Frankfurt's old town even before it was destroyed, it had been photographed frequently beforehand. Therefore, the existing, exceptionally good documentation could be used for a faithful reconstruction. Selected master craftsmen from all over Germany, who still master the traditional handicrafts, were involved in the elaborate, very detailed reconstruction. There is now a coffee house on the ground floor, above which a branch of the Historical Museum is to be set up, and at the very top the famous "Belvederchen", a green roof garden with a gazebo, a small fountain and a beautiful view. The "Golden Scales" is not only well worth seeing from the outside, so just go inside!

The Haus zur Goldenen Waage is probably the most elaborately designed building along the 2007 - 2018 reconstructed old town quarter between Römerberg and Domplatz, the histor. Coronation Walk.

The corner house at the market square and Höllgasse was already mentioned in the early Middle Ages, presumably after its owner at the time, as the Kulmann House or Colmann House. The earliest recorded mention dates back to 1323.[5] In 1405, it was combined with the rear building, Alte Hölle, to form one property. Around this time, the term "Höllgasse" (Höllgasse) emerged in popular parlance for the narrow, densely built, and extremely dark cross-connection between the market square and Bendergasse, even by medieval standards. There was also a house called "Junge Hölle" (Young Hell), located on the east side of Höllgasse, directly opposite Alte Hölle. Most of the houses on this side of the street, including the overhangs, were essentially located on the cathedral's property from the first floor onward – much to the annoyance of the cathedral chapter: The first recorded case dates back to 1299, in which the goldsmith Colmann got into a dispute with the clergy over his house on the east side of Höllgasse.
