House Hengelborg Stadtlohn

The manor house burned down in 1816. The chapel, which was built in conjunction with a single-story farm building, is of artistic, architectural and urban significance. It is a simple brick building with sandstone structure and roof turrets. The chapel was built in 1716 by Prince-Bishop Franz Arnold von Metternich as a hunting chapel. Inside there is a baroque altar from 1716, two stone figures: Mother of God with the clothed baby Jesus, St. Joseph with the naked baby Jesus, around 1720. The chapel and farm buildings were originally surrounded by a moat, some of which is still preserved. This moat is an important part of this building. The Haus Hengelborg chapel is the most important example of the art and architectural history of the 18th century and is also of great importance in terms of the city's history.
