After approx. 900m salt and fresh water meet in the cave. Very interesting tour, best with the boat from Cala Gonone.

Unfortunately, the Grotta Bue Marino is only accessible by boat. From the very beautiful hiking trail you can only get to the closed former entrance to the northern cave

Bue Marino is a cave where monk seals used to live until the 1960s. That's where the name comes from. Here meet three subterranean rivers which then open in the sea. In the cave is the boundary between fresh and salt water. It is possible to participate in a guided tour. The cave is accessible up to 2 km on foot. You can either get by boat from Cala Gonone or on foot.

The entrance to the northern cave is closed. The hike to the Bue Marino Grotto is still worthwhile, as the path there is spectacular (great view) and the entrance area is also worth seeing.

The Grotta del Bue Marino. With a breathtaking play of colors made up of stalactites and stalagmites that dance in the light, this stalactite cave promises an unforgettable experience for young and old.

For a comprehensive trip to the Grotta del Bue Marino, you can book a boat tour from Cala Gonone. She will take you there and back for 18 euros per person. The highlight of this tour is undoubtedly the visit to the interesting stalactite cave for an additional 10 euros. For children in particular, this will be an experience that they will not soon forget.

The cave is divided into two fascinating areas:

The southern part is an active water cave. A large tunnel crossed by sea water with numerous freshwater lakes fed by rivers captivates visitors. The electric lighting and the naturally occurring light make the stalactites and stalagmites glow in different colors. This section is about 900 meters long and is equipped with footbridges.

The northern part may be geologically inactive, but it is full of stories and secrets. It was closed for many years due to damage caused by tourism in the 1960s and 1970s, but since 2012 visitors have been able to discover this part again on guided tours. Note: This area is only accessible by foot and is not served by boats. Your adventure begins at Cala Fuili and takes you to the North Grotto after a short, steep stairway and a 40-minute walk.

The mysteries of this cave go deep into the past: rock carvings from the Neolithic show people dancing, suggesting that the cave was used for rituals.

If you want to visit the southern branch of the cave, we recommend the boat tour from Cala Gonone. You can only reach the north branch on foot, but it's worth it. No matter which path you choose – the Grotta del Bue Marino will remain in your memory for a long time.

The interior of the grotto is not open to visitors. The grotto entrance is closed off with a grate. However, a few stalactites can be seen in front of it. The path leading there, along a steel walkway attached to the rock, is also interesting.
