Impressive construction from the end of the 18th century by the engineer Carlos Moure, of French origin, it was to be the main dam of the Guadarrama Canal, a project to link Madrid with the Atlantic by river, connecting with the Guadalquivir through more than 700 km.
The project abandoned, the bank that financed it bankrupt, Moure committed suicide, leaving the works unfinished. Shortly after they suffered irreparable failures by a great storm. Its dimensions are impressive despite the fact that the project was to be even taller (there are barely 50 m of the 93 projected)

The El Gasco Dam is an unfinished dam from the 18th century built on the Guadarrama River. Its ruins rise above the confluence of the municipalities of Torrelodones, Galapagar and Las Rozas de Madrid, in the northwest of the autonomous community of Madrid. The easiest access is through the Molino de la Hoz urbanization.
