The Kommiezenpad is a smuggling path between the Netherlands and Germany. "Commiezen" referred to the customs officers who guarded the borders until 1995.
The St. Vitus stone is also located here. This stone bears the coat of arms of Gelre on the front and the coat of arms of Münster on the back and is chiselled on it: 'Renovatum 1753' with 'no. 79'. Number 79 refers to the border number as calculated from Rekken. The border marker (also called the Bismarck stone) currently has the number 788. That is the number counted from Schengen.
