Coastal erosion in action: Since harbor works interfered with the natural supply of sediment along the flintstone shingle ridge that stretches 18 km along the coast, every year crews have to deposit 30 000 m³ of shingle rocks along the coast to halt or slow down the loss of land. This pillar is all that remains of a farm house destroyed by the waves, eating away at the coastline. 1990 the low-lying champs bas were flooded. Only 100 years ago the farm was more than 100 meters inland from the coast.
