The Wildsee is incredibly romantic. On hot days you are guaranteed to find a shady spot by the trees. Above the lake there is a small hut with seating. If you have the time, make sure to take the path to the Darmstädter Hütte, which is actually part of the Baiersbronner Bannwaldweg. It's worth it. The Wildsee, which is 910 meters high and almost twelve meters deep, creates a wonderful atmosphere. Pure, undisturbed sounds of nature and not a lot of people. A place to unwind.

The "Wilde-See" is one of the three cirque lakes (Buhlbachsee, Wilder See, Huzenbacher See) in the Black Forest National Park. The lake, which was once little visited, is now the cirque lake in the national park, which attracts the most visitors.

Incidentally, the annual average temperature at the Wilder See (910 m) is only 5-6°C, the annual precipitation around 2000 mm. The lake is fed by two springs emerging from the Karwand. It is drained via the Seelochbach, which flows into the Murg as Schönmünz near Schönmünzach.

Fauna at the Karsee Wilder See: The biodiversity in the different areas of the Wilder See is particularly rich in species in areas with a lot of dead wood, lying on the ground and dead as well as standing. Here you can find many insects, rare raised bog dragonfly species, grasshoppers, butterflies and spiders, including Red List species. Of particular note, over 100 species of wood beetle and 40 species of ground beetle have been identified, including 11 species that are only found here. Birds include capercaillie and ring ouzel, but also the typical coniferous forest dwellers of the high altitudes such as crossbill, winter and firecrest, coal and crested tits. The national park mascot pygmy owl can also be found next to the tawny owl at the Wilden See. Lemon Canary, Woodcock and Redstart can also be seen.

It was found that an unusually large number of bird species breed, gray wagtails and little grebes breed in the shore area. Woodpeckers such as great spotted, black and three-toed woodpeckers are exceptionally common.

This hike is described as "difficult" on a board because of a relatively short alpine ascent and descent. It goes on a comfortably wide path through a group of rocks. No climbing or similar I hiked the route with my then 5 and 10 year old kids and met robust seniors.

One of the top highlights on the Black Forest High Road. It is most beautiful here early in the morning when there are hardly any people around.

One lake - two names. The Wilde See is often also called Wildsee. This is also the case on modern hiking signs. I personally like the name Wilder See better, as it clearly distinguishes it from the Wildsee in the Kaltenbronn high moor, which is only a few kilometers away.

The small refuge at the Wildsee would have to be nailed up because, as a volunteer ranger told me, there were always wild nights there. Great! No bench there either. If you want to take a little break in this beautiful place, you should pack a seat cushion.
