This Osttirol valley is also wonderful for cycling. The ascent from the Kartitsch pass is pleasant and smooth.

The east Tyrol side up to the Kartitscher saddle is the more continuous climb - here it goes more or less directly to the valley crossing of the (East Tyrolean) Gail valley over to the (Carinthian) Lesach valley via the Kartitscher saddle. The slope is moderate and the road is well developed so that there are no excessive difficulties to be overcome. The view over the Carnic Dolomites is sublime and the traffic is usually not disturbing. The Kartitscher saddle is not an Alpine giant, but it is highly recommended.

The stretch between the summit of the pass and Obertilliach is quite varied. Up and down and even a flat piece can be found here. To the top of the pass, it goes up a little steeper again. Very nice views of the Carnic Dolomites!
