The Sint-Jan Baptist Church is the parish church of Helkijn, a sub-municipality of Spiere-Helkijn in the Belgian province of West Flanders. The church is located on Gemeenteplein and has a rich history. According to some, there was a small church in Helkijn as early as 650, which was founded by Saint Eligius. The first written indication of a church in Helkijn dates from 988. The right of patronage belongs to the Saint Martin's Abbey of Tournai and the church is owned by the Bishop of Tournai, as is the village lordship. A Romanesque church was built around 1200 and was enlarged in the 17th century. A three-sided choir was added. In 1686 a sacristy was built against the choir on the south side. However, on September 8, 1686, the church was destroyed by fire.

From 1694 to 1705, a new church was built in Tournai stone, while the preserved parts, namely the choir, the southern sacristy, the chapels and the west facade, were made of brick. The parts of the Romanesque building that were still preserved were also made of Tournai stone, such as the entrance in the west facade. A brick bell tower was built in 1716. In 1886 the northern sacristy was built. In 1918 the roof and sacristy were severely damaged. After the war the church was restored. The church is a single-aisled church with a built-in west tower and a closed choir on three sides. The interior is covered by a plastered barrel vault. The church has several 18th century gravestones of dignitaries. There is a wooden painted and partly gilded main altar, two 19th century side altars, a 17th century pulpit and a 17th century painting depicting John's Preaching in the Desert. The cemetery around the church is surrounded by lime trees, hedges and a row of pollard willows.
