The Andechs monastery brewery is today the largest of only a few monastery breweries in Germany that is run independently by a religious order. It belongs to the Benedictines of St. Boniface in Munich and Andechs. Brewing and bottling is only done on site in Andechs.

It is more comfortable in the smaller beer garden than in the courtyard of the brewery.
The ascent to the tower is worth it (€ 1) at the top, narrow and steep stairs, but one each for ascent and descent. Great view!

The Andechs Monastery, visible from afar on the Holy Mountain above the eastern shore of Lake Ammersee, is the oldest pilgrimage site in Bavaria.
The Benedictines have been in charge of the pilgrimage since 1455. They live according to the Rule of Saint Benedict, which is often put on the short form "ora et labora - pray and work".

If you are touring the region, you should definitely visit the monastery and the Andechser Bräustüberl. Climbing the tower is also worthwhile, as there is a great view. All in all, a worthwhile highlight, highly recommended!
