          The historic town hall of Malmö was built in the years 1544-1547, at a time when Malmö was one of the largest cities in Scandinavia. The two-storey building was the largest town hall built in the 16th century.

          The town hall received its current façade in the Dutch Renaissance style around 1860 as part of extensive restoration measures. An attempt was made to restore the original medieval façade.

          While the vaulted cellar still looks like it did in the Middle Ages, the ceilings of the upper floors were decorated with elaborate stucco work in the 19th century. The Knutssaal was redesigned in the style of the Hall of Mirrors in the Palace of Versailles and is used for special festivities and balls. The exclusive Bernadotte Hall, reserved for royal and diplomatic guests, is also on the same floor.

          Restaurant Rådhuskällaren is one of Malmö's most famous restaurants in the cellar vaults.
