Rocamadour is situated on three levels. Each one is worth seeing and the whole of the place is just stunning. In the lower level you wander through the village, whose medieval houses nestle on the steep slopes above the gorge of the Alzou river. From there you can climb the Grand Staircase to the 12th-century Holy City (Sanctuaire). And at the top of the mountain, the third level, is a 14th-century castle. Great! Rocamadour is still a famous place of pilgrimage and also gave its name to a small goat cheese.

Stunning village built on a rock. Rocamadour is easy to reach in a day trip from Toulouse, but beware of arriving by car in front of lightning. Up in front of the chapel of Notre-Dame you can beat nails into a wooden stick, which should remind you of the nailing on the cross and provide protection when traveling. Rocamadour is said to be the second most popular pilgrimage site in France after Mont Saint-Michel.
