The 25.27m long long-distance view bridge is listed as a cultural monument in the Hamburg cultural authority's list of monuments and, together with the larger Krugkoppelbrücke, forms the northern end of the Outer Alster landscape. The bridge, which was built in 1927 and 1928 under the senior construction director Fritz Schumacher, offers beautiful views of the Outer Alster.
The decorative ceramics were designed by the sculptor Richard Kuöhl, who had known Schumacher since his student days and was often commissioned by him to decorate buildings.
The arched bridge, faced with clinker bricks, rests on granite bases and has a low construction height due to its basket arch.
The long-distance viewing bridge is 20.16 m wide and has a double-jointed frame whose cantilever arms are designed as plate holders.
The Fernsicht Bridge is named after the Fernsicht street, which crosses the Rondeel Canal, which connects the Rondeelteich with the Alster. The grass area at the distant view bridge is part of the Alster Park.

Distant view is the name of the road between Krugkoppelbrücke and the Fernsichtbrücke over the Rondeelkanal, rightly so. You get a wonderful view over the Outer Alster, if not exactly fog obscures the view.
