The Maurertal offers all of the scenic beauties that you would expect from a high alpine valley on a relatively short route: mountain forest, alpine pastures, torrential streams, beautiful trails, a glacial lake, views of the (still) glaciated mountains, and an Alpine Club hut in a particularly beautiful location.

In two to three hours you can climb from the Ströden car park (sometimes a postbus stop) to the Essen-Rostocker hut. This stage is also the first stage of the Venediger Höhenweg Süd, which starts at the Ströden car park.

The climb from the Ströden car park over the Stoanalm to the Essen Rostocker Hütte is extremely scenic. Further paths lead over a huge glacier to Lake Simony. In the back of the Maurertal is the Maurertörl, the transition to the Warnsdorfer Hütte and Kürsinger Hütte. These mountain trips are only reserved for experienced mountaineers who know their way around. The same applies to the Reggentörl, the transition to the Umbaltal and the ascent to the Dreiherrenspitze.

A relatively difficult transition is the one from the Essen Rostocker Hütte over the Türmljoch to the Johannishütte in the Dorfertal. But here too, absolute surefootedness is required.

Always ask the hut landlord about the conditions.
