The Isenachweiher lies in the northeastern Palatinate Forest 200 meters north of the B 37, which leads from the district town of Bad Dürkheim to Frankenstein. It belongs to the Waldgemarkung of Bad Dürkheim, whose residential area is about ten kilometers away.

The Isenachweiher in the Palatinate Forest is a 2-hectare reservoir on the Isenach with a managed forester's house with 🅿️ (forsthaus-isenach.de); and as so often you are alone after ~1 km in the forest 👍🏼

The Isenach is almost 36 km long. It has its source in the northern Palatinate Forest, not far from here (Ritterstein!), and flows into the Rhine 4 km south of Worms.

And another superlative: The Isenach pond was created in 1736/37 - by what is probably the OLDEST DAM IN GERMANY. This had to be built in order to operate the pumps of the Bad Dürkheim graduation house as evenly as possible with the hydropower of the Isenach (until 1850).

By the way, there has been a new themed trail for some time ("Pfalz Pfade Isenach"), which starts at the Forsthaus Isenach car park and circles the pond on very beautiful paths (without wide forest paths).

A worthwhile destination not only for motorized day trippers. To hike from many sides on foot or as a starting point for a hike (various paths that you can walk depending on the duration). After the return, a nice rest with good food and more in the forester's house or in the beer garden.

In the narrow side valley, the Isenach River was dammed about five kilometers below its source in 1736/37 to ensure a consistent water flow. This was necessary because the pumps of the Bad Dürkheim graduation tower, also built in 1736, were powered by hydropower generated from the Isenach until 1850. The Woog also supplied a mill wheel below the dam. Major maintenance work was carried out in 1810 and 1935/36; on the second occasion, the pond was desilted, and the excavated material doubled the dam's thickness from 35 to 70 meters.
