On December 16, 1942, Himmler, as the so-called "Reichsführer SS" and head of the Reich Security Main Office, signed the "Auschwitz Decree," which covered all Sinti and Roma still remaining in the Reich.
At dawn on March 10, 1943, 149 Koblenz citizens were taken from their homes and gathered at several locations in the city.
They were then taken in trucks from the police station at the Liebfrauenkirche to the main train station.
