Embedded in the beautiful nature of the Thuringian Forest is the Lütschetalsperre. Around the reservoir, you can ride a bike and enjoy the breathtaking views of the lake and the wooded shores. On hot days in summer, you may also like to jump into the water to refresh yourself. There is also a swimming area at the campsite, which you can use for free.

The dam was built from 1935 to 1937 and put into operation on 12.07.1938.
The real purpose was to store lime-free water for the Deutsche Reichsbahn. The dammed up water is called Lütsche - hence the name. Until 2004 there was a restaurant, which unfortunately burned down completely. Nevertheless, you can take a break here in the idyllic landscape and strengthen, for example, in the restaurant at the campsite.
The opening hours of the restaurant:
From Good Friday / Easter until 31st October open daily from 11.30 am (closed on Mondays)
(Changes depending on weather conditions / occupancy reserved)
During the winter months the restaurant is open from 11:30 to 17:00 on Saturday and Sunday

I know the area around the Lütsche well, since ~1972. Last summer the lake was drained again to repair the dam. The water quality at the Borzel spring is 10x better than the tap water in Erfurt (15-25 ppm). Let's hope that the inflow to the Lütsche doesn't dry up again in the summer, because then the lake could dry out a bit. Thanks for the tour!

The Lütsche reservoir, located between Oberhof and Frankenhain near Gräfenroda in the middle of the Thuringian Forest, is one of the most popular bathing destinations. The reason for this is, of course, the wooded surroundings. Otherwise, the Lütsche reservoir with its coarse-grained pebble beaches is mainly something for nature lovers. Bathers who prefer to splash around in open-air stainless steel pools are less keen on it.

But the Lütschetalsee, which is easy to walk around, is also a popular destination outside of the bathing season. It can only be reached by car from Frankenhain on a small, well-signposted forest road and from Oberhof on a 3 km long hiking trail. There is also a campsite by the lake and a small snack stand and a café with a restaurant on the campsite are available to provide for guests.
