Behind the dam lies a green valley with grass and trees, with the small Salemer Aach in between.

The catchment area of 287 square kilometers fills the valley quickly when it rains. Record in July 2021: almost 13 meters of water at the dam. Drainage rate at the top: 8500 liters / second. The emergency overflow at the edge of the dam has never been needed.
