A busy hub for people coming to walk and admire the Seven Sisters chalk cliffs. There is a cafe, toilet block, ice cream van (in summer), shop, visitors’ centre and lots of indoor and outdoor seating.

A lovely option for a beach walk at Birling Gap. Below the visitor center you can search for shells and relax while walking by the sea; a staircase leads down to the beach.

The small hamlet of Birling Gap, with its visitor center, offers the ideal starting point to experience the famous chalk cliffs. There are parking options and information about the national park here. Of course there are also souvenirs, snacks and coffee. The "Seven Sisters" are a series of chalk cliffs that have been formed by the coast over centuries. It is definitely worth visiting the chalk cliff formations and hiking through the national park.

We did the hike during the winter, so there was a tiny layer of fog lying in the air. Still, the view was fantastic.

We use to go by ferry to England, so we were happy to see the white cliffs from an other point of view. The hike is amazing. Don't go too close to the edge. The Birling Gap was a real highlight. We didn't imagine it would be so impressive to be down on this beach and to see those white cliffs rising above us! And the cafe is very nice; we can recommend it. They even take Scottish pounds, so really nice :-).

Perhaps the most beautiful chalk cliffs in England can be found in this hamlet.
Year after year the rocks continue to crumble, and in the information center (with cafeteria) you can see how houses fell into the depths with the falling rocks in recent decades.

Sculpted by melt-water and heavy rain during recent ice ages, and the erosive power of the sea more recently, the present-day cliffs mark the end of a series of natural inland gulleys. The Seven Sisters Cliffs are primary composed of chalk , a soft fine-grained, and porous limestone rock formed from accumulation of calcium carbonate-rich remains of marine organism.
Birling Gap is a coastal popular hub the the South Downs meet the sea.

This is where the stunning Seven Sister Cliffs begin. The tour over the cliffs and the view of the lighthouse are really worthwhile.
The ascents and descents are quite steep and require a certain level of fitness.
There is a café in Birling Gap for refreshments. Here you can also see the beach and the chalk cliffs from below. The car park is owned by the National Trust, which means members can park for free.

The Beachy Head and Seven Sisters visitor hub with a shop, toilets and cafe. A great starting or finish point for a host of activities. Lots of seats and parking and when we visited on a sunny day in October not to busy either.

Tip: There is a large, free car park in the nearby village of East Dean. From there, walk through the ancient forest to the first cliff of the 7 sisters.
Once you get there, you can either follow the other "sisters" on the cliff path or walk the short distance down to Birling Gap and then east up to Beachy Head.
Advantage: You save on parking fees, no pressure because you have to be back at the car at a certain time, the option of taking the bus back to the car park, avoiding the annoying hustle and bustle on sunny days at Birling Gap. There are tons of tour buses stopping there and it gets really crowded!

An average tough route from either direction on the coast. We passed here on the final leg of the South Downs Way. Very popular and busy.
