    Located in a fantastic spot with excellent views of the Kent Downs AONB, these twin burial structures make for a fascinating pit stop on a hike in the area. The Coty Houses are the remains of megalithic long barrows, revealing just how long humans have been living in the region.

    Under the management of English Heritage, you can visit the standing stones for free. Kit's Coty House remains standing whilst Little Kit's Coty House has long since fallen and lies as a stone jumble. No one knows where these burial places got their names from, but they are rather charming.

      Kit’s Coty is a megalithic 'dolmen' burial chamber that comprises three upright stones and a massive capstone. Nearby, stands Little Kit's Coty (also known as the Countless Stones) which is also a megalithic burial chamber but has fallen into disrepair. Whilst the exact origins are unknown, experts are certain that these long barrows were constructed in the early neolithic period to act as communal burial sites. Both are located in an open field which affords breathtaking views across the North Downs and Medway Valley. The site, which is owned by English Heritage, is free to enter.

        Kit’s Coty House and Little Kit’s Coty House are the remains of two megalithic long barrows standing in open fields, two more fine examples of the “Medway Megaliths”. Long barrows were constructed during the early Neolithic period, they represent the burial places of the earliest farming communities, demonstrating this area of Kent was home to agricultural communities dating back thousands of years.
