As early as 1429, there were written reports of a barge ferry crossing the moat. Instead of today's cathedral bridge, there has been a fixed connection over the old Havelarm since the Middle Ages, which was first mentioned in 1691.[41] The wooden bridges of that time almost always had to be renewed after thirty years of use at the latest. In 1924 the construction of a massive reinforced concrete bridge began, which was inaugurated after two years of construction. The bridge was blown up at the end of the war in 1945 and a wooden structure was built over the rubble in 1948. In 1957 these parts of the bridge were removed and a wooden bridge was created again, which was again replaced by a wooden bridge in 1983. Both wooden bridges were built as part of the training program by the pontoon regiment 3 of the NVA[42]. Today's reinforced concrete bridge was built in 1998.
